The Lead Fleet Mechanic plays a pivotal role in overseeing the maintenance and repair operations of Resource Transport’s fleet. This position is responsible for leading mechanics, ensuring work quality, and maintaining the safety and reliability of diesel-powered trucks and trailers. The Shop Foreman/Lead Mechanic provides technical expertise, mentors team members, coordinates daily workload, and ensures compliance with company and regulatory standards.

Schedule: 2 weeks on, 1 week off, 12-hour shifts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a team of mechanics, providing training, guidance, and performance feedback.
  • Oversee and participate in diagnostic testing, repairs, and preventive maintenance on Kenworth tractors, Timpte trailers, and engines including Paccar and Cummins models.
  • Assign and prioritize daily maintenance tasks to ensure timely completion while minimizing fleet downtime.
  • Conduct quality control checks on completed work to ensure adherence to company standards and DOT/EPA compliance.
  • Manage and maintain accurate maintenance and repair records within the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Assist in planning and controlling inventory of parts, tools, and supplies to keep the shop operating efficiently.
  • Coordinate responses to emergency breakdowns, ensuring mechanics are dispatched promptly and that repairs are completed effectively.
  • Support a safe work environment by enforcing PPE requirements, safety practices, and compliance with all company and regulatory policies.
  • Serve as a technical resource for the team by troubleshooting complex repairs and providing hands-on support when needed.
  • Communicate effectively with management regarding fleet status, repair schedules, and resource needs.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; trade school or technical certification in diesel mechanics strongly preferred.
  • 5+ years of proven experience as a Diesel Mechanic, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
  • In-depth knowledge of Kenworth tractors, Timpte trailers, and Paccar and Cummins engines.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach, train, and motivate mechanics.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities with high attention to detail.
  • CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
  • Must provide own tools and maintain professional appearance per company policy.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and perform physical duties such as bending, stooping, and climbing as required.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to read, write, and speak English.
