The Certified Welder & Equipment Mechanic at Resource Transport plays a dual critical role in aluminum welding and mechanical maintenance to ensure the safety, performance, and reliability of the Company’s fleet and equipment. This position requires a high level of technical expertise, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering quality workmanship. A primary focus of this role will be aluminum welding on Timpte trailers, requiring advanced welding skills and consistent, high-quality results.

 

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7am – 5pm.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Welding Responsibilities (Primary Focus):

 

  • Perform high-precision aluminum welding on Timpte trailers, including repair, reinforcement, and fabrication.
  • Take or read measurements to plan layouts and welding procedures for trailer components.
  • Determine and set up appropriate welding equipment, tools, and methods for aluminum materials.
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal, overhead).
  • Align and weld aluminum components, ensuring durability and compliance with safety and structural standards.
  • Inspect and test welded surfaces and structures, correcting defects and ensuring long-term reliability.
  • Maintain welding equipment, tools, and work area to ensure safety and efficiency.
  • Adhere to company welding standards and follow all safety protocols for aluminum welding operations.

Mechanical Responsibilities:

 

  • Perform diagnostic tests and repairs on diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems.
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on trucks, trailers, and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of all repair and maintenance activities using a Computerized Maintenance Management System     (CMMS).
  • Respond promptly to emergency breakdowns, providing on-call support when required.
  • Collaborate with team members to optimize fleet performance and share best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and standards, including DOT and EPA requirements.

 

Qualifications:

·      Proven experience in aluminum welding, with emphasis on Timpte trailers or similar equipment.

·      Expertise in welding techniques, especially MIG and TIG for aluminum applications (AWS certification preferred).

·      Strong knowledge of metal properties and welding processes specific to aluminum.

·      Strong knowledge of Kenworth tractors, Timpte trailers, and Paccar and Cummins engines.

·      Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, and electrical systems.

·      Experience with diagnostic tools and CMMS software.

·      Knowledge of safety standards and a commitment to wearing proper PPE (e.g., steel-toed boots, gloves, face shield).

·      Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.

·      Physical ability to perform tasks that require bending, stooping, climbing, and lifting up to 136 pounds.

·       High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in welding or mechanics preferred.
